Introduction STEM scholarships are typically some of the most competitive scholarships for high school students to attain.

Factor this in with the "international" student status, and your chances are almost

0. That is why today we have compiled this list of the Top 10 STEM Scholarships for Indian High School Students.

We hope that those who are currently High School Students residing in the country of India can access higher levels of education for prices that meet their needs.

On to the list!

STEM Scholarships for Indian Students

1. INSA Young Scientist Award Similar to the 3M Young Scientist Challenge, the INSA Young Scientist Award is awarded to young scientists who are have made exemplary progress in their research contributions to the country of India in the world of science.

However, unlike the challenge in America, it is not solely open to high school students, as anyone under the age of 40 years old with U.

S.

Citizenship is eligible to join, so long as they have been an Indian citizen for at least 5 years.

With a maximum of 40 awards per year and 925 scientists being recognized in India as of 2021, this award is extremely prestigious but also extremely difficult to win, and thus is up here on the list to serve as something that ambitious Indian high school students should aspire to strive towards after delving more deeply into the field.

As far as prizes go, because we know that is what you are here for, they do not disappoint.

On top of a medal and certificate to each awardee, 100,000 rupees is delivered to the future scientists: money with for high school students can pay off almost a full academic year of college education.

2. ABC Scholarship Program The Aditya Birla Capital Scholarship program, or ABC for short, is available per annum for students in classes 1-8 (for a maximum scholarship prize of 18,000 rupees) and students in classes 9-12 (for a maximum scholarship prize of 24,000 rupees).

The overall premise of this program is to provide financial assistance to any students with an annual family income of less than 6 lakh (so not too strict) in order to encourage them to pursue higher levels of education freely.

Additionally, those who are enlisted into a professional undergraduate course from a prestigious college or university at any time during their education have their scholarship prize money increased all the way up to 60,000 rupees (more than double).

3. INSPIRE Scholarship Program This program offers 50,000 scholarships to students in class 10 or 12 across the country of India who rank in the top 1% of their class and want to pursue a field in the sciences.

There are three different scholarships under the INSPIRE scholarship programs, namely the following: INSPIRE Internship (SEATS) INSPIRE Scholarships (SHE) INSPIRE Fellowship (AORC) Although much more information is on the website, all of these scholarships essentially are looking for students currently enrolled in a B.

Sc. , B.

S. , Int.

M.

Sc. /M.

S. degrees, or Basic and Natural Sciences or who plan on pursuing such a program.

The intent is to take the spark of science fused within a student's mind and expand it outwards into something memorable for the future generations to learn from.

4. Tata Trusts Means Grant This scholarship is more specific to students residing in Mumbai, India, which means that it is less competitive and plausibly easier to seek out.

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research is holding this scholarship to be accessible to all students of class 8 and higher, providing a grant on a merit basis to financially "needy" students in a sufficient enough portion as to enable their talented young minds to blossom.

The maximum fund value is 10 lakh.

Please note that a maximum of two students from the same family may apply, with more information found on this website.

Additionally, if you are in a touch financial spot and would like to apply for scholarships (need based or otherwise), but do not want to waste thousands of dollars on mentors and camps that just tell you things that you already know, then check out this FREE scholarship guide below: https://www. rishabacademy. com/scholar

5. National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) The National Talent Search Examination, or NTSE for short, is a two-section exam available to students under the age of 18 residing in India.

Those who pass their class 9 exams with a score of 60% or higher meet the eligibility criteria, and the scholarships in general are specifically targeted towards students in class 1

0. The exam is carried out at a State level followed by a National level, and successfully being deemed a National talent, on top of winning scholarship money of Rs 2,000 per month is an illustrious title that comes with profuse amounts of pride and honor for the receiver.

In terms of preparation for the exam, it would be very similar to that which one would do for an SAT type exam.

In fact, the second section of the test itself is referred to as the Scholastic Ability Test (SAT), only one word away (aptitude) from being the exact same word, while having the same acronym!

6. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (Disc. 2022)  Funded by the Department of Technology & Science, Government of India, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY for short) is a less intense national program that provides scholarships and mentorship for grade-school students who are pursuing education in the basic sciences.

One critical facet of the program is to identify students who have "talent and aptitude for research", and encourage them to continue their passions, toning them to become some of "the best scientific minds for research and development in the country".

Through both an aptitude test and a personal interview, about 2,000 students are selected across 3 streams, with roughly 1,000 of them ultimately chosen to receive the scholarship money of between 5,000

- 20,000 rupees per month.

With so much research experience required for programs such as this one and so little clarity on knowing how to even get your foot in the door, it is important that you are kept steered in the right direction and do not veer off the crudely paved road for scholarships.

But wait, if this program is discontinued, then why is it on the list?

Well, ever since it was grouped with the INSPIRE Scholarship program, the acceptance rate has steeply diminished, with, as mentioned above, only the top 1% of the nation of India's brightest students being accepted.

However, past exam papers are still available, and many have found them to be an invaluable resource in preparing for the other scholarships and their own school examinations.

Thus, although in and of itself it is no longer a scholarship opportunity, it is still merged with others and can be a great starting point to work towards other scholarships on this list, like a "practice".

7. CSIR Innovation Award for School Children The CSIR Innovation Award for School Children was created by the Industrial R&D Organization in India in order to motivate scientific and innovative thinking amongst children still in school.

Those who win the scholarship can earn prize money up to 100,000 rupees.

Essentially, what the award is is that students must deliver a project proposal on an innovation rigorously proved in efficacy through a model, a prototype or experimental data and explained in a project report no longer than 5,000 words long in either Hindi or English.

An innovation (as deemed by the organization), for the record, counts as anything that is AT LEAST one of the following: Novel and utilitarian A new concept or idea A design or solution A completely a new method/ process/ device/ utility All of the above MUST be in an effort to solve an ongoing problem and existing problem in the world, similar to as with the science fair.

Any student below class 12 is eligible to apply so long as they are in India, with the specific STEM categories that the innovation falls under REQUIRED to be biotechnology, biology, chemistry, electronics & engineering/device or design.

8. International Research Olympiad The International Research Olympiad, although not specific to high schoolers in India, is a worldwide competition that is extremely new, with less than 1000 participants in the March 2024 exam.

Yet, by this Olympiad being so new yet so prestigious, it is a phenomenal opportunity for students to compete and try their hand at winning top level awards and being recognized at an International Level.

Additionally, it is a great way to expand your branch of connections, with the competition itself having its second and final round hosted in-person at Harvard University.

As student board of advisors member Rishab Jain himself stated, This is a great opportunity if you are: Interested in STEM; Interested in scientific inquiry and/or research; Looking to meet a community of student researchers; Excited to win prestigious awards!

9. Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) This organization provides a 100 question examination that tests a students ability in Science and Mathematics from textbooks, Indian Contributions to Science, the life story of Vyankatesh Bapuji Ketkar and his contribution in the field of Measurement of Time, and Logic and Reasoning.

It is available to those from classes 6-12, and can merit prize money up to 25,000 rupees to students.

The cash prize, coupled with prestige and recognition, eases the pathway into colleges like so many others of the scholarships listed, making this a wonderful scholarship to delve into. 1

0. IRIS National Fair This is the competition that qualifies you for the ISEF (International Science & Engineering Fair) through the India National team.

It is the science fair of India.

At ISEF, you have the opportunity to represent your country and win almost 500,000 rupees to back up your science education, so it is definitely a worthy endeavor for all high school students in India to look into.
