Key Components of the Application

1. Application Form A.

Fill Out Personal Information, Academic Details, and Extracurricular Activities Make sure to list the significant community and volunteer activities in which you participated over the last two years.

Also include your leadership role and the estimated number of hours your participation in each activity.

Example: Habitat for Humanity

- Volunteer-7 hours total (1day event) Church Youth Group – President

- 100 hours total (2 hrs/week/year) Elementary School Tutor -12 hours total (1hr/week/summer program) Student Council – 100 hours total (2hrs/week/year) Focusing on one or two of these activities, please tell us the following: The name of the organization and your leadership role; How the organization positively impacts the community; What inspired you to participate; What you learned from the experience; and How your participation contributed to the impact of the organization.

Essay Questions Just like the common app, the essay portion of the application to the Bank of American Student Leaders program is the most crucial step.

It is one of the most important parts of your application because it truly shows who you are as a person and what are your interests.

List of Questions: Have you participated in any other leadership training programs (i. e.

Outward Bound, National Youth Leadership Forum, National Student Leadership Conference, etc. )?

What challenges do you see in your community and how do you see yourself addressing those challenges now and in the future?

Describe a leadership challenge you have encountered, how you addressed that challenge and the personal growth you achieved from facing that challenge?

Who has inspired you as a leader and what have you learned about leadership from that person(s)?

As you consider qualities of a successful leader, where do you see your opportunities for personal growth?

Why do you want to be a Bank of America Student Leader and why should you be chosen?

Bonus TIP: BE SURE to provide specific examples that showcase your accomplishments and commitment towards community service and leadership.

Recommendation Letter One letter of recommendation is required as part of the application.

That letter must be: From an administrator/teacher/guidance counselor or coach at the student’s current school.

On school letterhead Signed by the recommender Any application that does not include the required letter of recommendation will be disqualified from consideration.

Secure a recommendation from the individual who can speak to your leadership skills and character.
