What is Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS)?
Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is an academic enrichment program for outstanding high school students from around the world.
Each summer, students from over 150 countries (including all 50 U.
S. states) participate in one interdisciplinary, two-week session at Yale’s historic campus.
Immerse yourself in a global learning community at Yale University. “Yale Young Global Scholars empowers the next generation of leaders by building a global community and designing interdisciplinary programs that foster intellectual curiosity, deepen understanding and inspire creative action across all borders. ” All quotes are from the YYGS Website.
YYGS offers three session dates featuring four academic tracks: IST, LPC, PLE, and SGC.
The typical day for YYGS students includes lectures, seminars, small group breakout sessions, and time spent on a capstone project.
The program is split into three Sessions (I, II, III) for students to apply to that are spread out over the summer.

- Tips and Tricks Getting into the Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) program can be highly competitive due to its prestige and the large number of applicants from around the world.
Here are some tips and tricks to help you stand out in your application:
1. Start Early The application process for YYGS involves multiple components, including essays, recommendation letters, and transcripts.
Starting early will give you ample time to gather all necessary documents, reflect on your experiences, and polish your essays.
In addition, starting your YYGS application early ensures that your recommender and school counselor have enough time to prepare their materials on your behalf.
The rule of thumb is to ask for letters of recommendation or transcripts at least two weeks in advance.

Note that there are two application cycles to YYGS: the Early Application round and Regular Decision round.
Early Action round: Early October: Applications open.
November 1, 2023: Application deadline.
Pay $70 application fee.
December 20, 2023: Notification of admission decision and financial aid offer.
January 4, 2024: Deadline to accept/decline offer and pay tuition.
Regular Decision round: January 10, 2024: Application deadline.
Pay $85 application fee.
March 10, 2024: Notification of admission decision and financial aid offer.
March 15, 2024: Deadline to accept/decline offer and pay tuition.
2. Showcase Your Passion YYGS is looking for students who are passionate and curious about learning.
Make sure to highlight your passion for the subjects and activities you are involved in.
Whether it’s through your essays, activities list, or short answers, let your enthusiasm shine through.
In addition, the extracurriculars you describe in your application are just as important as the character you showcase in your essays.
Determine which cohort you’re applying to (STEM, humanities, social sciences, or cross-disciplinary track) and cater your application to fit that niche.
Make sure to showcase how you’ve explored your field of interest and what role it has played in your life.
3. Highlight Leadership and Initiative YYGS values leadership and initiative.
Showcase instances where you have taken on leadership roles or initiated projects, whether in school, community, or other settings.
Demonstrating your ability to lead and make an impact will strengthen your application.
4. Get Strong Recommendations Choose a recommender who knows you well and can speak to your strengths, character, and achievements.
