Watch the recording now

Watch the recording of our webinar with Dr. Yi Han Ng, a Stanford postdoctoral researcher, and Eli Hanechak, an ISEF award winner.

They walk through how students can gain real hands-on research experience and turn it into a strong science fair project, covering practical ways to access wet lab opportunities, why this experience is essential for building meaningful research, and how early lab work can evolve into a competitive science fair entry.

Whether you're just starting to explore research or looking to strengthen your project, this recording will show you how hands-on lab experience can become the foundation of a successful science fair journey.

Eli Hanechak

Eli Hanechak is a Biochemistry and Biological Physics double major at Brandeis University whose research in environmental microbiology has been recognized at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), Regeneron Science Talent Search, and by organizations including National Geographic and the American Society for Microbiology. A 2nd Place ISEF award winner in Microbiology and a Davidson Fellow Laureate, she has conducted independent academic research for over four years and is a ScienceFair mentor.

Dr. Yi Han Ng

Dr Yi Han Ng is a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University whose research focuses on synapse formation and stem cell reprogramming to better understand neurological and neurodegenerative diseases. She earned her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Stanford, where she reprogrammed human embryonic stem cells into functional midbrain dopamine neurons, with implications for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at international conferences, and supported by the National Science Scholarship and a Young Investigator research grant.

Chris Haley

How ScienceFair Works

How ScienceFair Works

How ScienceFair Works

ScienceFair is a high-touch science fair coaching program built for students who want real competitive outcomes. Our students have earned $75,000+ in merit-based STEM scholarships and awards, and are up to 40× more likely to qualify for ISEF and nearly 3× more likely to win compared to the global average. We pair students with past ISEF winners who guide them through project ideation, research design, and judge-focused presentation.
